Implant-Supported Dentures in Montgomery County, PA

If you need to replace most or all of your teeth but hate the idea of wearing removable dentures, consider implant-supported dentures with Dr. Hunter of Skippack Village Dentistry. Implant-supported dentures use a series of titanium implant posts inserted directly into the jawbone to securely hold in place strong, life-like dentures. The implants prevent the dentures from ever shifting or slipping out of the mouth, a concern with conventional dentures. Don’t let missing teeth — or the idea of ill-fitting dentures — stop you from smiling, speaking or eating your favorite foods. Dr. Hunter possesses over 30 years of experience recreating healthy and confident smiles with implant-supported dentures.
Placing Implant-Supported Dentures
Creating and placing implant-supported dentures involves several steps over the span of two or more dental appointments. During the first appointment, Dr. Hunter will take impressions of your mouth and bite, as well as other information needed to create your dentures and determine the exact number and location of the dental implants to be placed. The implant posts will then be placed into the jawbone during an oral surgery. Once the implants are inserted, you will return home to rest for the remainder of the day. In order to provide a secure and stable foundation for the dentures, the implants need to fuse with the surrounding jawbone. This process, called osseointegration, takes several months to complete. In the meantime, Dr. Hunter will place a fixed denture so you can chew, speak and eat as normal while you wait for your permanent replacement teeth to be ready.
Once your jawbone has fully healed and the implants have integrated with the surrounding bone and gum, you will return to our office. Dr. Hunter will place the dentures over your gums and check your bite. Once everything looks good, he will secure the dentures to abutment pieces that connect the implant posts to the dentures. If you have never worn dentures before, there may be a small adjustment period as you learn to chew and speak with your new replacement teeth.
Caring for Your Implant-Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures should be cleaned and taken care of like natural teeth. Brush and floss your dentures regularly and schedule dental appointments every six months. Avoid biting down on hard objects like ice and bottle caps to protect your dentures from chipping or cracking. Do not smoke as smoking can stain the dentures (not to mention jeopardize your oral and overall health!).
In addition to traditional implant-supported dentures, Dr. Hunter offers the innovative All-on-4 system. Rather than using six to eight implants, the All-on-4 replaces all of the teeth in an arch with just four dental implants. The implant posts are strategically placed throughout the jaw to anchor a full arch of replacement teeth. All-on-4 implants involves a simpler procedure and shorter recovery period than a traditional implant-supported dentures procedure.
